DataAssure Backup Appliance
DataAssure services are delivered through a suitably configured DS-Client Backup Appliance, installed into the customer's network. The DS-Client Backup Appliance final configuration will be determined by the specific requirements of each customer. Small customers will have to delegate a system, which is always available to provide this function. Medium to Large customers may lease or buy the backup appliance(s) as needed.

As a minimum, the DS-Client Backup Appliance includes a Central Processor (CPU) Intel Core i7 950 Quad-Core 3.0GHz, 1GB free Ram minimum, internal HDD storage of 80GB minimum, (2) 10/100/1000 Ethernet network card, Windows 2003 OS or higher and Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) with SP3 or higher. It is recommended that the system be connected to an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). In addition to these base components, one or more DSB Services can be added as required. Currently a maximum of three DSB Service Processors can be configured.

The key criteria in establishing the final specification of the DS-Client Backup Appliance are the size and scope of the customer network, the number of customer servers and workstations, the mix of applications and the quantity of data to be managed. Additional consideration must be given to the Local Storage option as well as the Long Term Storage option, which requires a Blue-Ray Optical DVD device.

The DataAssure DS-Client Backup Appliance services are delivered in a standard EIA 19" rack Mount device or via an optional Desk-side Tower system.

Statistical Analysis
Statistical backup data can be generated to determine the data backup usage and trends before performing actual backups. For Statistical Analysis you do not need a connection to the Internet, as no backup data is transmitted. Statistical data is gathered and stored in the DS-Client database. Statistical backup sets can help you to estimate the initial backup size, as well as the data change trends of your backup data. This allows you to determine how long the initial backup of baseline data will take.

You can estimate the amount of changes your backup data will experience between backups (the greater the amount, the longer the backups time). To do so, simply let the backup(s) run on schedule for at least five or more full sessions. This will distinguish the backup data change trend from the initial baseline backup.

Portable Vaults
The DS-Client service is designed to perform automated backups to an off-site location. This approach requires an adequate communication link between the DS-Client and the DS-System that allows data backup/restore in the given time window.

If a customer site needs to restore a large amount of data (due to a server crash or other disaster), the communication link between the DS-Client and the DS-System may not allow the restore process to be completed in a reasonable amount of time (e.g. 10GB over ISDN). In these cases, an optional Disaster Restore Service can be provided to the customer by their DataAssure Secure Backup service provider.
